SUBJECT: Proposal Requirements for the McMURRAY VFW CHARITABLE FUND.

1. Objectives. The mission of the McMurray VFW Community Partnership Committee is to support the VFW’s national program goals, to enhance the quality of life within our community, and to demonstrate our post’s commitment to the community by identifying and assisting worthy local organizations and initiatives with financial support. With this mission in mind, the Committee strives to identify and support activities that fall into one or more of the following categories:

(a)  Does the proposal promote activities designed to stimulate interest in American history, American traditions, and patriotism in general?

(b)  Does the proposal encourage understanding of our civic responsibilities and national institutions?

(c)  Does the proposal assist important youth activities, such as the Boy Scouts, hunter safety programs, Special Olympics, athletics, academics, or others?

(d)  Does the proposal enhance home, automobile, or bicycle safety?

(e)  Does the proposal aid in drug awareness or help limit substance abuse?

(f)   Does the proposal assist law enforcement officials or other public servants in their own efforts toward public safety?

(g)  Does the proposal directly enhance the quality of life for everyone in our community?

2. Eligibility. All individuals and organizations within Peters Township and the surrounding communities are eligible for support.

3. Proposal format. Please provide the following information to us to describe your request for funds:

(a)  Cover page: Include names of project director and any co-directors, the name of the organization, and mailing and telephone points of contact;

(b)  The amount of support requested;

(c)  The proposed usage (budget) of the requested support, including an approximate timeline for usage of the funds;

(d)  A description of the project, including a description of how the project fits into one or more of the categories above;

(e)  Attachments of any supporting documentation or references that would be of use to the Fund’s evaluating committee.

4. General. This proposal does not need to be elaborate, but rather should “get the point across.” If the evaluating committee needs any additional information, the committee will contact the project director directly. Project directors will be responsible for accounting for the usage of the funds to the Post. While the Post will consider requests for assistance of larger or smaller amounts, it is anticipated that the average grants awarded will range from $250 to $500.

5. Timeline: The submission deadline is July 1, 2006. The notification of awards will take place about a month after that deadline.

6. For further information. Feel free to contact me at 724-942-0577 with any further questions.
